PD Dr. Irmtraud Hnilica

Irmtraud Hnilica is a Privatdozentin (habilitated scholar) in Modern German Literature at the FernUniversität in Hagen and currently serves as a Visiting Professor at the University of Mannheim. Her research focuses on eighteenth-century literature and theatre as well as on the literature of the Weimar Republic and the present. She is particularly interested in the cultural and aesthetic potentials of popular literature and in the interactions between canonical and popular forms. In addition, her work engages with literary and cultural theory, especially in the fields of gender and diversity. Her most recent book is Raptusformeln: Entführungen im bürgerlichen Trauerspiel, Singspiel und Abolitiondrama des 18. Jahrhunderts (Rombach Wissenschaft, 2024).
